Job Overview

NET Power is seeking a Turbomachinery Program Engineer.  In this role you will spearhead the design collaboration with our partner Baker Hughes, overseeing the development and validation of supercritical CO2 turbomachinery for integration into NET Power's standard plant design. You will also manage product requirements, work breakdown structures, schedules, technical interfaces, and information flow between the process and the turbomachinery design teams. This includes new products such as the utility-scale and the sub-scale validation demonstrator-scale oxy-combustion turboexpanders as well as key process pumps and compressors.  

 

NET Power’s patented technology combinesmethodologyfrom both the process and chemical industries as well as power generation.Candidatesmust have strong process, product development,project management,and systems engineering background with experience in new product introduction and commercialization in relevant industries. 

This role will sit in our Houston, Texas office.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Interface, in collaboration with partners:

  • Drive design and execution of a first-of-a-kind combustor & turboexpander and other rotating equipment, collaborating with key partners and NET Power’s process engineering team to define and monitor system interfaces.
  • Develop the validation strategy, development steps, and the underlying work breakdown structure for deploying new turbomachinery technology at commercial scale.
  • Develop work breakdown, prioritize workflows, and build performance estimation tools.
  • Identify, organize, and communicate critical information between the process and turbomachinery design teams.
  • Prioritize, mitigate, and resolve technical challenges and document project risks; leading root cause analysis and producing reports for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Identify and contract global subject matter experts in key areas to support the growing NET Power team.

 

Manage Product Delivery:

  • Maintain a standard system design concept and identify opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Identify and uphold relevant standards, processes, and regulations.
  • Organize regular status and design reviews to maintain the interface between NPWR, the OEM, and a variety of external experts. 
  • Implement timely countermeasures based on input from internal and external experts.
  • Oversee performance, project execution, and program management, ensuring on-time and on-budget fulfillment of engineering commitments.
  • Support creation of plant technical packages for key components, maintaining configuration control and release processes.
  • Monitor the manufacture, delivery, and commissioning of the first commercial sCO2 turboexpander at our partners' facilities, collating lessons learned to scale up manufacturing.
  • Ensure product development meets market facing customer performance and lifecycle cost requirements.

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of program management, systems engineering, and systems design experience at a turbine or turboexpander original equipment manufacturer or similar. 
  • Prior experience in new product introduction (NPI) and commercialization in relevant industries.
  • Knowledge of both power generation and oil & gas industries.
  • BS Degree in Engineering (MS preferred). 
  • PMP and Lean Six Sigma certifications highly desired. 
  • Working knowledge, skill, and experience using Agile or LEAN, define, measure, analyze, improve, control (DMAIC), design for six sigma (DFSS), design for reliability (DFR), failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and design to cost (DTC).
  • Experience using modern digital engineering collaboration and design tools.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced collaborative work culture.
  • Manage ambiguity without hesitation.
  • This position is based in Houston, TX; moderate travel required 35-50% including Florence, Italy.
