Job Overview

NET Power is seeking a highly experienced Senior Heat Exchanger Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This individual will oversee the design and integration of key process heat exchangers and recuperators inside the NET Power cycle, working alongside our recently announced partner Lummus Technologies and Lummus Heat Transfer and various suppliers to deploy NET Power at commercial scale. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in specialized high pressure heat exchanger rating & design, engineering, materials, layout, fabrication & manufacturing, installation, and operation & monitoring with a track record that spans across relevant project lifecycles and technologies. With heat transfer as a central part of NET Power’s cycle, this individual will sit at the forefront of NET Power’s long term performance improvement, innovation, and technical strategy.

This role will sit in our Houston, Texas office.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead collaboration with external partners and equipment suppliers to oversee the design and integration of specialized heat exchangers within the NET Power cycle. 
  • Utilize a system engineering approach to ensure seamless integration of key heat transfer equipment within the NET Power cycle, while applying optimizing for cost, performance, operability, reliability, & safety.  
  • Conduct and maintain internal analyses and models to accelerate alignment between NET Power process team with heat transfer suppliers and designers, 
  • Leverage existing demonstration facility and suggest ongoing testing to ensure validation and verification of designs and capturing of lessons learned.
  • Provide expertise and foresight to identify materials, fabrication methods key cost drivers, configuration needs, and value engineering opportunities specific to NET Power’s heat transfer requirements with an eye to long-term improvements.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define system and interface requirements, develop specifications, establish timelines, and monitor progress against milestones in tandem with NET Power project resources. 
  • Support or oversee tendering processes, including the preparation of bid documents, evaluation of proposals, and negotiations to secure favorable terms and agreement in sale of equipment or sale of gas scenarios, as required. 
  • Develop project scope, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. 
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and innovation throughout all phases of the project, from conceptual design to deployment and operations. 
  • Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and feasibility studies to evaluate technologies, equipment performance, and integration requirements, identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement. 
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the project team, promoting best practices, lessons learned, and knowledge sharing initiatives.  

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of at least 10 years in heat exchanger design roles, with a focus on complex and advanced systems.
  • Expert in heat exchanger design principles, utilizing process rating & design tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, HTRI, FEA and CFD.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials science, advanced metallurgy such as high-nickel alloys, and their application in heat exchanger design. Expertise in printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHE), high pressure shell & tube, brazed aluminum, and other cutting-edge equipment desired.
  • Experience working in the energy industry and familiarity with industry-specific requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of leading successful heat exchanger projects from concept to implementation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to plant locations and partner offices (some international) up to 25% of the time.
