Job Overview

The Commercial Manager, Origination will play a central role in managing commercial activities related to NET Power plant project development and customer origination activities.  The role supports the identification and development of new business opportunities, clients and partnerships and their advancement through NET Power’s commercial processes.  They are responsible for supporting the design, implementation and execution of NET Power’s go-to-market strategy and project development initiatives. 

This position will be based in our office located in Houston, TX or Durham, NC.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Origination Activities:

  • Perform market analysis, mapping, and research utilizing internal and external data sources to inform origination and partnership prospecting activities, including end-use customers and stakeholder mapping.
  • Support Origination team on developing processes to effectively evaluate project origination opportunities and market data studies. 
  • Work closely with NET Power analytics/structuring and finance teams to support and update project techno-economic models and provides key updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Origination team to support and coordinate day-to-day Commercial Operations and Baker Hughes Joint Commercial Committee activities.
  • Support marketing efforts with research, analysis, and presentation content; processes marketing output and partner consortium outcomes to prioritize resulting engagements.
  • Support, prepare and maintain customer, NPWR Board, and quarterly earnings presentation materials as guided by NET Power leadership.
  • Maintain opportunities and updates project and customer engagements and deliverables in Salesforce. Actively works to help identify organizational process needs and ways to simplify and/or automate within Salesforce.

 

Project Development activities:

  • In close coordination with NET Power’s origination and project development/ management teams effectively manages workstreams across early-stage project deliverables including project feasibility activities, schedules, and budget management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate site-specific project details (e.g. location, climate, infrastructure, etc.) are routed back to the appropriate NET Power teams to ensure application engineering needs for commercial opportunities are captured and so that appropriate resource planning can occur. 
  • Support successful transition of originated projects, once certain milestones are met, to the project execution team to commence FEED, EPC mobilization, and construction. 
  • Guides internal origination processes, and interfaces with the NET Power commercial operations team on key messaging, project / customer coordination, and objectives. 
  • Prepare project materials and agenda for internal deal governance meetings and to update leadership on progress as key deliverables and milestones are achieved. 

 

This role may also include collaboration on the following workstreams:

  • Work with origination, supply chain, and project teams to maintain and update project budgets and evaluate / track third-party vendor proposals/ bids and project costs. 
  • Support origination with the negotiation of project and customer contracting, including partnership agreements, and manages resulting workstreams concerning both internal and external parties.
  • Support origination and government affairs teams on government funding opportunities (e.g., grants, DOE LPO, etc.) including project materials, stakeholder meetings, and application support as related to specified projects. 

 

The ideal candidate for this role demonstrates a project management mindset to guide projects and origination workstreams across the organization and with partners/ customers.   Requires demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguity and implement structured processes to thoroughly evaluate and progress projects. Cross-functional internal and external collaboration is essential.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field; MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the energy sector, preferably in power generation, power origination and/ or renewables. 
  • Customer/ partner-focused; possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have the demeanor and professionalism required building strong relationships, both within and outside the company. 
  • Well organized, disciplined individual, with a reputation for integrity, maturity, and sound business judgment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Outgoing and self-directed individual able to identify and maximize opportunities. 
  • Power BI experience desired.
