Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized Project Manager to join our Projects Team. Net Power previously announced its plan to develop and build the world’s first utility-scale natural gas-fired power plant with near-zero atmospheric emissions near Midland-Odessa in West Texas. This Project Manager reports to the VP, Projects and supports the coordination and execution of that project and future projects.
This job requires working with the FEED/EPC contractor, engineering, project controls, operations, and outside strategic suppliers of equipment and services. The role includes reviewing and advising on project technical aspects as well as assisting the Projects Team with leading and managing certain aspects of the project, including large turbomachinery, innovative process components, support utilities and off-sites. Project Managers integrate closely with the Engineering and Product Development Teams to support the utility-scale Net Power standard power train design. The ideal candidate will be a flexible, self-disciplined, motivated team player that can interface and work efficiently with all disciplines and contractors locally and remotely.
This position will be based in our Houston, Texas office (in the Energy Corridor at 11700 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079). Net Power offers a hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office and 2 days remote. This role will require travel for short periods to project site near Midland/Odessa, Texas, FEED/EPC contractor offices, and utility and vendor offices and shops throughout North America and Internationally. During some project phases travel could reach or exceed 30%.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Work with FEED/EPC company, Owners Engineer, Engineering and other Net Power staff to plan, organize, and support project execution by following appropriate processes and procedures.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and other technical project documents.
- Maintain coordination between all entities with responsibilities towards the scope of work.
- Contribute to preparing project budgets and schedules.
- Provide Projects Team information of EPC contractor milestones completed.
- Provide input for project cost and schedule progress and related factors to assess project health and potential interventions required.
- Act as liaison, ensuring effective communication between Engineering, Product Development standard design development, Projects Team, FEED/EPC contractor, and multiple suppliers of utilities and services.
- Monitor and manage project components to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
- Participate in HAZOPs, model reviews, technical reviews and weekly engineering and project meetings.
- Travel for short periods to project site near Midland/Odessa, Texas, FEED/EPC contractor offices, and utility and vendor offices and shops throughout North America and Internationally. During some project phases travel could reach or exceed 30%.
Education and Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- 7-15 years of experience in engineering and project management, preferably in the power generation or gas processing/petrochemical industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including organization and direction of technical personnel, experience in procedure and process documentation and technical report writing.
- Proficiency in project planning and solid organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment.
- Proficiency in the review and formation of contracts and subcontracts for equipment and a range of services required for projects.
- Proficiency in review of PFDs, P&IDs, SLDs, technical specifications, and related project technical documents for process and/or power plants.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated experience as project engineer on large scale projects measured by CapEx greater than $500MM USD.
- General understanding of contract development and administration is preferred.
- Broad understanding of each engineering discipline, as well as effective management and leadership skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and duties.
- Experience implementing first of a kind technology preferred.
